Summer Reading Book Reviews

By: Haley Troha

I don’t know what you spent your summer doing, but I read a lot of great books. Here is a list of a couple that I really enjoyed, that you might enjoy as well. I will try my very best not to spoil any of these amazing books for you.

Crescent CIty, by: Sarah J Maas. Crescent City is a fictional masterpiece, full of fantasy, romance, and adventure. Based in a modern fantasy world, the novel follows Bryce Quinlan, a half-fae who is determined to live her extended life to the fullest, until calamity strikes, and her life is uprooted by chaos and despair. Two years later, the person responsible for the tragedy is back on the loose, and it is up to Bryce to stop them before it’s too late.

Other books by Sarah J Maas: Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Catwoman: Soulstealer.

Caraval, by: Stephanie Garber. A fast-paced circus-esque book full of surprises and thrills. Scarlet Dragna lives on an isolated island with her wiley sister Tella, dreaming of an invite to Caraval, a magical but mysterious game run by the marvelous Legend. Just as Scarlet thinks that it’s too late to fulfill this wish, she receives special tickets to Caraval and her sister whisks them there, seemingly not thinking of the consequences. Caraval may seem like all fun and laughter, but as she gets closer to winning, Scarlet realizes it’s not just a game.

An Ember in the Ashes, by: Sabaa Tahir. In an epic historical-fantasy crossover, Sabaa Tahir recreates a deadly and enchanting ancient Rome. Laia is a Scholar, forced to work for the good of the rich and powerful. After her life is uprooted in a raid, she must turn to the dangerous Scholar rebellion to help her save her brother. Elias is a Mask - the most talented and vicious soldier in all of the Empire. But unlike the others who wear their Masks proudly, Elias has only ever wanted to leave their ranks. Freedom is unthinkable, but soon he becomes entangled with Laia and the rebellion, making desertion the least of his crimes.

Other books by Sabaa Tahir: All My Rage.

Twin Crowns, by: Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber. Two sisters, one crown. Wren Greenrock is a witch, persecuted for her magic and forced into hiding with her kin. Her twin sister, Rose, is the princess of the kingdom bent on exterminating witchcraft. When Wren swaps places with her unwitting sister, she faces the task of an impossible deception in order to rule for the good of the witches. Rose however, wakes in a desert with an annoying but handsome stranger, who helps her realize things she never knew, even about herself.
