This past year has been difficult for so many people, but we have continued to power through it and have come together as a community. So many have continuously donated time, energy, and stress to help others during these testing times. There are numerous heroes who deserve tons of gratitude and thanks such as frontline workers, small business owners, and any others who continue to work despite these challenging times. But, today, I’m going to be focusing on the people that have done amazing things within our own community here at Wheaton North.
Hidden between the walls of our school, some of our very own have been donating their time to help give aid to the ones in need. These students are working at COVID Clinics. Senior Caden Bohmer explains his job, “I work as both a receptionist as well as in the lab. In reception, I check people in when they come for their appointments...and notify patients via text of their results. When I work in the lab, I run the rapid tests.” Senior Ava Mackay, another COVID Clinic volunteer, adds, “The pandemic has left a terrible effect on our world, but it has also given me the opportunity to assist people in ways that I never could have imagined.” One important thing we can take away from our own heroes is that kindness doesn’t go into quarantine. For these two, they used this time as a way to get involved in their community and give back. I know I and many others will be forever grateful for their kindness.
This year is one that will never be forgotten, but when looking back, remember the heroes who donated their time to protect us and keep us safe!
