Christmas Movie Recommendations
By: Olivija Vasiliauskas
It’s that time of year again: time for snow, curling up by the fireplace, Christmas trees, candy canes, and presents. It’s also the time of year for Christmas movies. Here are a few recommendations for your extended time at home this year...
1. It's a Wonderful Life ( 1947) (Prime Video)
Regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, this movie is a must-watch this Christmas season. It is about a man named George Bailey who is contemplating suicide. As prayers for George are heard in heaven, Clarence, a second-class angel who has yet to earn his wings, is put to the task of saving George’s life. George’s life is full of many ups and downs, and he is nearing his breaking point. Can Clarence save him in time? Watch to find out!
2. Home Alone ( 1990) (Disney+)
It’s everyone’s favorite Christmas movie of an 8-year-old boy named Kevin McCallister who is mistakenly left at home when his family takes a Christmas vacation to Paris. This movie is action-packed, with robbers breaking into the house and Kevin saving the day in the end. It is fun for the whole family with plenty of comedic,laugh-inducing scenes.
3. Elf ( 2003) (Hulu and Prime Video)
A truly iconic movie, Elf is definitely a must-see. The plot follows Buddy the elf, who accidentally climbed into Santa’s sack while he was visiting Buddy’s orphanage on Christmas Eve. As a result, Buddy ends up at the North Pole. Thirty years later, Buddy is told by the elf that raised him, Papa Elf, that he is really a human. Papa Elf also tells him that his real dad, Walter Hobbs, lives in New York City and is on the naughty list. Feeling adventurous and wanting to learn more about his past, Buddy goes to New York City to find his dad.
This movie is perfect if you need a good laugh this holiday season.
4. The Princess Switch 1 ( 2018) and 2 ( 2020) ( Netflix)
If you are a fan of The Princess Diaries and Parent Trap, these movies are perfect for you. I watched the first one last year and ended up loving it and its creativity. Starring Vanessa Hudgens (who also plays Gabriella from High School Musical) as Lady Margaret, the Duchess of Montenaro, and Stacy Genovo, a baker from Chicago, the first movie is about how Stephanie enters a baking contest in the country of Belgravia and runs into Lady Margaret, who coincidentally looks just like her. They decide to switch lives for a few days to see what each other’s lives are like, and the movie concludes with an unexpected ending that will definitely surprise you!
