“You’re ambitious, clever, interesting, and beautiful. I put “beautiful” last because for some reason, I have a feeling you’d roll your eyes if I wrote it first. But you are… you have this energy that radiates off you, a shimmering optimism I wish I could borrow for myself sometimes.”
Rachel Lynn Solomon wrote a masterpiece called Today Tonight Tomorrow.
If you are anything like me, you are an overachiever who enjoys reading and watching romantic comedies. You find comfort in indulging yourself in multiple universes regardless of how unrealistic they are. And no matter how gut-wrenching the plot becomes, you can count on a satisfying ending. Does that sound like you? If so, you may find Rowan Roth incredibly relatable!
Rowan Roth is the main character and narrator of this story. Rowan is the daughter of a children’s book author and illustrator duo. There are multiple reasons why I love Rowan’s personality so much. She is an intelligent, overachieving, senior class co-president. She sticks up for what she believes in and has witty comebacks. She is a bibliophile with a focus on romantic comedy stories.
The plot of Today Tonight Tomorrow occurs over twenty-four hours. This is Rowan’s final day of high school. Last shower of high school. Last time opening her high school locker. Last time saying goodbye to her parents in the morning before school. Last everything. Before her Freshman year, Rowan wrote a list of aspirations that she wanted to accomplish by graduation. The last goal on that list was to destroy Neil McNair.
Neil McNair is Rowan’s nemesis since Freshman year. Neil McNair is incredibly intelligent and ambitious. He is a source of inspiration for Rowan since she wants to destroy him. And a way to do this is the Senior Honors Assembly. She is going to find out who is going to be valedictorian.. There is a plethora of reasons why I love Neil. At the beginning of the story, there is not much known about him as an individual besides the fact that Rowan hates him. He is a caring and chaotic redhead with freckles. There are more reasons but you will have to read the book to find out. This book is truly the greatest book that I have read this summer, and frankly, it is my favorite book. I recommend this book if you enjoy stories with amazing banter where the characters can hold a conversation. In my opinion, if you have watched Gilmore Girls and agree with me that Season One was the greatest season of this show, you would most definitely enjoy this story. Today Tonight Tomorrow is engaging, I completed the book in less than a day. I couldn’t think of anything else besides this book for weeks. There is adventure, romance, friendships, deep conversations, and much much more.
“That’s the thing. I think I do. I’ve not talked about it for so long, and with you… for some reason, it’s not as hard as I thought it would be.”
