A Look Ahead: Playoffs (Wheaton North vs. Larkin)

By: Amy Boehm

After a long past year dealing with COVID restrictions and all the inherent difficulties that came along with it, our football team proved their hard work and dedication throughout it all. Coming back strong this year with an 8-1 record, the Falcons head into the playoffs this weekend facing Elgin Larkin (5-4). With the home field advantage, the team has high hopes for the turnout of the game.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Wheaton North is predicted to make it to at least the semifinals, where they are assumed to be facing Brother Rice (7-2). They are also currently ranked 4th in the 7a class and 8th in the state, as determined by an Associated Press panel of sportswriters. Every player is important, but they each have their own special skills as well. Casey Morrison, a senior on the team, says: “Mark Forcucci, our offensive leader, and Ross Dansdill, our defensive leader, should continue to lead their side of the ball. We rely on everyone to do their 1/11th of the play, but these guys will lead our team.”

Playoffs put the Falcons up against schools they normally don’t see, which provides exciting new opportunities to bring home more wins. The competition is intense however, and that can have an effect on the preparations the team must make prior to the game. According to Senior Trent Gabriele, “Going into every game we need to be confident we can win, but always have to put in the work.”

Overall, playoffs bring exciting new challenges and competition for the team. They have the potential to go far and end this season on a high note, and we should all be excited to watch the journey unfold. Everyone needs a ticket to the game, as it is a IHSA playoff game. Tickets are $5 and will be sold during lunches in the Activities Office. Wear gold this Friday to the home game and support the team!
